Abstract

In a process of steam pressing or steam ironing textile fabrics or garments, a small amount of lubricant is dispersed in the steam and is deposited thereby upon the textile article. The lubricant may be a mineral or vegetable oil and may also contain an organosilicon compound, a Werner complex compound, a fluorescent dye or a chlorophyll. The organo-silicon compound may be octadecyl dimethyl ethoxy silane, stearyl dimethyl methoxy silane, diethyl diethoxy silane, ethyl diethoxy silane, phenyl dimethoxy silane or ethyl triethoxy silane which may be polymerized during steaming to a waxy or resinous compound, or may be a liquid dimethyl polysiloxane, diethyl polysiloxane, diphenyl polysiloxane or monomethyl polysiloxane which may be incorporated in the steam as part of the lubricant. The Werner complex compound may have an acido group containing more than 10 carbon atoms co-ordinated with a trivalent chromium atom, e.g. stearato chromic chloride, which forms a polymer and insolubilizes when the article is dried. The organo-silicon compound or Werner complex compound may be added to the oil together with either or both the fluorescent dye or the chlorophyll. The chlorophyll may be a heat stable, water or oil soluble derivative, e.g. an ammonium, sodium, potassium, copper or magnesium salt thereof. The composition may be pumped into the main steam line feeding a plurality of steam presses or may be introduced continuously or intermittently in response to the operation of the press in a pressing machine or may be introduced into the aqueous medium of a steam iron. U.S.A.
