Abstract
743,853. Rolling; straightening. MORGARDSHAMMARS MEK. VERKSTADS AKTIEBOLAG. Feb. 6, 1953 [Feb. 6, 1952], No. 3380/53. Class 83 (4). Stock issuing from the finishing stand 1, Fig. 1, of a rolling mill is cut to length by shears 5 and the cut sections are successively guided by switch means into different channels 9-12 in which they are braked by friction to stop at positions opposite the cooling bed. The stock is alternately guided by a horizontally reciprocated pipe 3 to one or other of a pair of vertically reciprocated pipes 6, 7 which guide the stock to one of the channels 9-12. Each channel comprises a member 81, Fig. 8, mounted on a pipe 82 which rolls on shelves 84 to drop the cut length 80 on to the first notch 81 of the cooling bed 73 under the action of air cylinders 88. Chains 90 guide the tubes 82 and limit the rotation and recessed guides 83 limit the upward return movements and enclose the guide way. Photo-cells 93 control the actuation of the shears 5 and movement of hydraulic cylinders 8 actuating the guide pipes 3, 6 and 7. The tipping of the channels 81 and movement of the walking bars of the cooling bed 73 is also controlled so that only one bar at a time is dropped in the first notch 61. A further cell 94 (not shown) automatically stops the shear 5 in the event of the last length being too short to reach the cooling bed. In a modification further sets of reciprocating guide pipes are provided which spread the cut sections out into two groups of eight so that they drop into the first eight notches of one of two cooling bed sets of walking beams 73, Fig. 14, on each side of runout roller tables 69, 70 provided for heavier bars. On these cooling beds, feed rollers 95, 96 under pressure of a pneumatic ram 97 are provided to bring all the bars to a given position determined by a photo-electric cell 98 (not shown) for cutting by cold shears. In another example in which the apparatus is adapted for a quick change from rolling heavy bars to lighter bars the guide pipes 82, Fig. 9, are mounted in a frame 85 carried by pivoted levers 101, 102 so that they can be swung in and out of the working position by a pneumatic motor 105. In this example the cooling bed has rails 106, 119a for a stretching carriage 115 for use in straightening bars. The carriage supports a hydraulic clamp 110, Fig. 10, for gripping one end of a bar, the clamp being counterbalanced by a weight 114 for raising and lowering the hook 100 of the clamp into or out of engagement with the notches 108 on the stretching beam 107. The walking beams 73 may also be used for straightening the work and speeded up or reciprocated to impart blows to the work. In one example for straightening flat bars the beams may be reciprocated so that they engage the bars in an edgewise direction. Specification 735,292 is referred to.
