Abstract
739,951. Automatic exchange systems. AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC LABORATORIES, Inc. Feb. 25, 1954 [March 10, 1953], No. 5587/54. Class 40 (4). A double-wiper hunting switch is driven by a shunt-field motor magnet the two windings of which are connected to the two test wipers so that stepping continues as long as both wipers encounter busy or unwanted outlets. A system employing finder-hunter links is described, the finder 102 and hunter 200 operating simultaneously and being driven by shunt-field magnets M150, M270. When a call occurs, line relay R120 removes ground from the test terminal and grounds start wire 171. Relay R330 in the allotter energizes in series with magnet M310 followed by relay R340 and connects up start relay R210 in the allotted link. Magnet M150 now steps the finder 102 until test wiper 166 or 168 encounters an ungrounded outlet, when the corresponding switching relay R130 or R140, hitherto short-circuited, pulls up in series with the magnet. At the same time, magnet M270 steps the hunter 200 in search of an idle outlet and switching relay R230 or R250 pulls up. The operated switching relay R130 or R140 grounds test wiper 166 or 168 to energize cut-off relay R110, and both operated switching relays are held by ground fed back from the switch ahead. Magnet M310 steps the allotter to preselect the next idle link. If all links are busy, however, relay R320 is released to prevent useless hunting. When the connection is released, the hunter 200 steps to normal. Specification 170,385, [Class 40 (iv)], is referred to.
