Abstract

737,275. Electric control systems. WESTMINSTER FILMS, Ltd. Nov. 18, 1953 [Nov. 18, 1952], No. 29122/62. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XL (b)] In a cine or television camera the amount of light passing through the shutter is automatically controlled by a photoelectric cell in accordance with light intensity. The invention is described with reference to controlling the opening of a conventional cine-camera shutter of the type in which a pair of constantly rotating semicircular plates 1, la are adjusted relatively to each other. The spacing of the two leaves is adjusted by a geared motor 8. In operation, deflection of the pointer of a photo-electric exposure meter 9 closes it with one of a pair of contacts 11, thus energizing the appropriate one of relays 16. Motor 8 is thereby energized and varies the shutter spacing at the same time repositioning through the screwed shaft 13 a block carrying the contacts 11, the adjustment ceasing when the pointer is positioned between the two contacts. An adjustable coupling 15 between screwed shaft 13 and motor 8 enables the block to be positioned initially. In the case of a television camera the motor may adjust an iris shutter. In the arrangement of Fig. 2 (not shown), the meter is clamped so that the pointer moves in a horizontal plane, the contacts 11 being arranged as shown in Fig. I so that the pointer moves between them. The Specification states that the photo-cell may control the relays by electronic means.
