Abstract

737,116. Making composite sheets. MALLINSON & SONS (MANUFACTURING), Ltd., W. Nov. 17, 1953 [Jan. 26, 1953], No. 2189/53. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group VIII] A method of producing metal encased material comprises applying metal sheets 4 to opposite faces of a core material 1, e.g. timber, plywood, hard board, plaster board, formed with a peripheral groove 2 and bending over marginal portions 5 of the metal sheets so that at least the edges 6 of said marginal portions extend into the peripheral groove, the joint between the edges of the marginal portions being sealed by means of a waterproof sealing material 3. The metal sheet which is stuck to the core material may consist of tin plate, galvanized iron sheeting, copper, brass, aluminium and also lead for applications such as X-ray screens. The sealing material may be a rubber-base compound or synthetic resin filler composition of a plastic nature. The core material may be rectangular or circular and the edges of the metal sheets which extend into the peripheral groove may have overlapping portions.
