Abstract
736,081. Artificial teeth. POPPER, F. Feb. 26, 1953 [June 18, 1952], No. 15394/52. Class 81 (2). An artificial molar or premolar tooth has a working surface which is inwardly curved in transverse section to provide a channel extending longitudinally of the tooth, the surface being adapted to co-operate without interdigitation with a complementary tooth during mastication. An upper artificial molar or premolar (Fig. 1) is provided with a concave working surface having transverse parallel grooves 6. The opposing artificial molar or premolar (Fig. 4) has a convex working surface with grooves 7, 8 in the form of a cross. In making a denture incorporating these teeth, the upper and lower dentures are arranged in a " straight plane line set up ". A piece 10 of wax (Fig. 8) is placed at the ends of the lower denture and the dentures are then inserted in the mouth and a bite taken so that the wax is flattened. On removal of the dentures from the mouth, the wax is trimmed to the posterior edge of the last molar 11 and the molars are then reset so that their working surfaces lie on a line between the top surface of the wax and the working surface of the premolar or equivalent teeth. The molars of the upper denture are also reset in accordance with those of the lower denture.
