A device for warming the contents of a container, e.g. an infant's nursing bottle 16 comprises an electric heating element 36 mounted within the container 16, which is placed in a well 14 in a support 12, and an electric means is placed between the well and support to cause relative movement therebetween to agitate the contents of the container. The heating resistance 36 is in a space between concentric inner and outer cylindrical shells 30, the ends of the space being sealed by annular plates 32 forming spiders supporting the shells on a central hollow column 34 extending through the base of the container and containing a thermostatic switch 40 arranged in series with and controlling the heater 36. The leads 38 of the heater are connected to a plug 42 in the lower end of the tube 34. Prongs 44 of the plug 42 engage a socket 46 connected to a supply plug 54 through a manual switch 50 and an indicator lamp 48 on the support 10. The lamp 48 is in parallel with the thermostatic switch 40 so that when the switch 40 is closed the lamp 48 is lit. The bottle 16 is of plastic, glass or metal. The means for moving the well comprises a solenoid 18 in a magnetic frame 20 attracting an armature in the form of a plunger 22 attached at its upper end to the well 14. Downward movement of the plunger in the coil 18 is opposed by a spiral spring 24 around the plunger so that cyclical energization of the coil 18 ensures reciprocation of the well 14. A switch 26 in circuit with the coil 18 is opened by the downward movement of the well 14, and is closed when the container rises. The agitation ceases when the liquid has reached the required temperature. Specification 724,981 is referred to.
