734,599. Overhead conveyers; skips. TRIANCO, Ltd. Aug. 4, 1953 [Aug. 7, 1952] No. 19969/52. Classes 78 (4) and 104 (2). An overhead electrically-driven conveyer comprising a skip 1 and a driving motor 2 mounted on a carriage 3 movable on rails 4 has an electromagnetic brake 15 coupled to the driving motor 2 and a control means which actuates a control switch 6 in the forward, reverse and stop positions to start or stop the motor 2 and to apply the brake 15. In another aspect of the invention the overhead electrically-driven conveyer comprising a skip and a driving motor mounted in a carriage movable along rails the skip is formed in two halves pivoted together and each pivotally connected to the carriage in such a manner that the two halves swing to the closed position when empty and to the open position when loaded and means are provided to lock the halves together in the closed position and to release the locking means to allow the loaded skip to open. Thus the overhead conveyer has a skip 1 formed in two halves 20, 21 pivoted at the top and connected by a linkage including a toggle mechanism which on movement over a dead-centre position in one direction locks the two halves 20, 21 with their edges abutting and when moved over the dead-centre position in the opposite direction allows the two halves 20, 21 to separate under the load of the contents. The switch 6 is operated manually through a rod 10 by cords attached to arms 13 mounted on a spindle 12 or automatically by an arm 14, also connected to the spindle 12, engaging a fixed stop 8 attached to the rail 4. The two halves 20, 21 of the skip have inclined bottoms 22, 23 and are pivoted together at 24. The half 20 is pivoted at 25 on plates 26 rigid with the chassis frame. The half 21 is pivoted at 27 on links 28 pivoted at 29 to the chassis frame. A shaft 30 journalled in plates 32 extends transversely beneath the half 20 and has attached thereto a pair of links 34 which at their outer ends are pivoted to the underside of side members 35. The side members 35 are arranged on each side of the halves 20, 21 and are pivotally mounted on brackets 37 which carry bushes 36 and are rotatably mounted on a shaft 31 journalled in plates 33 attached to the side of the half 21. A pair of screws and lock nuts 38, 39 allow the bracket 37 to be tilted about its pivotal connection and to be locked in the adjusted position. The halves 20, 21 are released for opening by pushing the righthand end 401, Fig. 1, of the members 35 upwards and to the closed locked-in position by pulling the same end of members 35 downwards past a dead-centre position (41, 30, 31). The halves 20, 21 are so balanced that when loaded they move to the open position and when empty to the closed position. Specification 477,562 is referred to.
