A lubricant fitting, which may be used, for example, for supplying plastic lubricant for lubricating plug valves, comprises a tubular member having a check valve chamber at one end externally threaded at the other end, means being provided to allow passage of lubricant even when the spring retaining the valve in place is solidly compressed. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a valve body 10 is provided with a tapered plug which is rotatable by means of an operating stem 12 having a portion 14 screw-threaded on the valve body and coupled to the plug. The stem is hollow and contains a check valve assembly 22 and a hollow lubricant screw fitting 24, the intervening space 25 constituting a reservoir for lubricant. The fitting 24 comprises a shank 28 fitted with a head 32 within which is slidably mounted a valve element 40 comprising a smaller cylindrical portion 42 fitting closely an end wall opening in the head 32, and a larger non-circular portion 41 the corners of which engage the walls of the bore 34 to define passages for lubricant. The valve 40 is recessed to receive one end of a spring 48 and is slotted to allow passage of the lubricant down through the interior of the spring. The spring is inserted after the head 32 has been secured by brazing to the shank 28, and is held in place by a hollow retainer 50 screwed into the shank. The outside of the head 32 is of hexagonal crosssection for reception of a wrench, and has an annular groove 60 to enable it to be coupled to a grease gun. The wrench is used to turn the shank 28 and thereby to force lubricant from reservoir 25 to the valve of the body 10. In the construction shown in Figs. 9 and 12 a shank 72 is integral with a hollow head 78 which contains a valve element 90. The element has a portion 94 fitting closely in an aperture 86 and a larger portion with ribs 92 engaging the bore 84 to form channels for lubricant. The valve element 90 below the ribs is recessed and slotted and has also a shouldered portion 100 engaged by one end of a spring 114, passage of lubricant through the spring being ensured even though the spring be fully compressed.
