Abstract

732,849. Electric selective signalling. STROO, W. Dec. 22, 1952 [Dec. 22, 1951], No. 32505/52. Class 40 (1). In a positional control system of the balanced bridge type, or wherein a rotary-multipointcontrol switch operates a motor to drive a similar multipoint follow-up switch, the motor drives the receiver shaft through an electromagnet clutch which at coincidence is disengaged and positively locks the receiver spindle. Transmitter. This consists of a control knob 3 rotation of which moves a wiper contact 12 over a series of circularly arranged fixed contact studs 7, and a wiper contact 9 over a fixed contact ring 6, the control knob being locked in any selected position by a spring pressed ball 4 engaging in a recess corresponding to the selected position. Receiver. This comprises a similar set of wipers 18, 21 rotatable respectively over a contact ring 16 and a ring of contact studs 14 which are individually connected to corresponding contact studs 7 at the transmitter. When the transmitter and receiver are not in correspondence, the spindle 23 carrying the receiver wipers is driven by a continuously running motor shaft 35 through gearing 34, 33, 32, 31 until coincidence is achieved, when a pot magnet 25, 26 fixed to gear wheel 31 is energized in known manner over the wipers of the two switches. The magnet core is attracted to the casing bottom 37 against the action of a spring 29 thereby retracting the gear wheel 31 axially to decouple the gears 31, 32. By frictional engagement with the casing 37 the magnet also locks the receiver spindle against rotation. The receiver spindle may be precisely positioned by one or more detents in the casing 37 engaging recesses in the magnet. A frictional coupling may be used in lieu of the toothed coupling 31, 32. The coil of the magnet may alternatively be fixed to the casing. Balanced bridge system. The contact studs 7, 14 are connected to resistors to form a bridge controlling in known manner the energization of the pot-magnet.
