Abstract

732,660. Regulating. CITY TANK CORPORATION. Oct. 18, 1951 [Oct. 19, 1950], No. 24343/51. Class 7(6). [Also in Groups XXIX, XXX and XXXI] The throttle valve or fuel contro means 38 of an engine 10, through which a hydraulic pump 14 is power ed to drive a hydraulic motor 16 en countering a wide range of loads, is actuated by a servomotor 34 having pistons 53, 58, Fig. 3, therein res ponsive to the pressure in the hydraulic system, the travel of the larger diameter piston 53 being limited by a stop 50 whilst the smaller diameter piston is capable of being moved independently of the piston 53 beyond the stop 50 by abnormally high pressures in the hydraulic system. As shown the engine 10 of a refuse truck drives through a power take-off 12 a hydraulic pump 14 which drives a hydraulic motor 16 actuating a refuse loading and packing mechanism 22 described in Specification 684,722, [Group XXX], and comprising a chain lift 23 and packer device 27. The engine throttle valve lever 37 is connected through a rod 35 to the servomotor 34 which is connected by a pipe 33 to the hydraulic fluid pressure pipe 15. The servomotor 34, Fig. 3, comprises a sliding piston sleeve 53 in which is slidably arranged a second piston 58 connected to the rod 35 and loaded by a spring 73 acting on a flange 67, the pistons being sealed by packing rings 56, 61. After engaging the power take-off 12, the operation of the engine at idling speed is suthcient to drive the loader 22 when unloaded. On loading thereof, the pressure rise in the line 15 actuates both pistons 53, 58 against the spring 73 to open the throttle valve. After a short travel the piston 53 contacts the shoulder stop 50 and both pistons remain stationary in this position for normal loading of the loader 22. An abnormal load causes a greater pressure build-up in pipe 15 and the piston 58 moves relative to the piston 53 to open the throttle valve further. Specification 545,099, [Group XXX], also is referred to.
