Abstract
732,427. Optical systems. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP OPTISCHE INDUSTRIE DE OUDE DELFT. Sept. 14, 1953 [Sept. 12, 1952; May 22, 1953; May 22, 1953], No. 25311/53. Class 97 (1). A central optical system includes one or more conical refracting or reflecting elements located so as to reduce the spherical aberration of the system. Each element comprises a surface in the shape of a circular cone with straight or substantially straight generatrix and with axis of symmetry coinciding with the optical axis of the system. The conical surface may be composed of several conical surfaces, each differently inclined to the axis. The other surface of the element being plane, concave or convex as' necessary. As shown in Fig. 3, a correcting element 1 having one surface conical and the other plane is used in conjunction with a doublet 2, 3 to correct spherical aberration. The other surface of the element may be concave, convex or aspherical and the central portion of the conical surface may be plane or spherical. If desired the central portion may be obscured by a mask a. Such an element may also be used as a condenser or in combination with a concave spherical mirror with, if desired, a meniscus correcting lens. Both surfaces of the element may be made conical in the same sense so that rays from the edge of the object are incident on the upper and lower parts of the conical lens at about equal angles. Fig. 7 shows a concave mirror receiving light from a meniscus correcting lens C and directing it to an image plane F via a conical mirror 12 having an apex angle of almost 180 degrees. When, for manufacturing reasons, the mirror 12 is provided with a central aperture it is obscured by an opaque disc a. Specification 638,976 is referred to.
