Abstract
731,429. Thermo-electric batteries. TURCK, J. Sept. 17, 1951 [Sept. 20, 1950], No. 21792/51. Class 53. [Also in Group XL (b)] The hot junction of a thermocouple comprises elements 9, 10 which are supported over an opening 6a in an insulating support 6, carried on conductors 7, 8 passing through the base of an exhausted container 1. A disc 5 of a material transparent to infra-red radiation closes the upper end of the container. The disc 5 may be made of rock salt, potassium bromide or iodo-bromide of thallium. The elements 9, 10 are welded at 11 to the conductors 7, 8 and are placed in position by depositing the metals on a cellulosic film covering the support 6 and subsequently removing the film, for example by dioxane vapour.
