Abstract

730,964. Vehicles equipped with endless conveyer floors. ALLEY TRAILERS, Ltd., and BENTALL & CO., Ltd., E. H. April 13, 1953 [March 18, 1952], No. 7014/52. Class 78 (4). An endless conveyer forming the floor of a farm vehicle is driven through two epicyclic gear trains of different ratios including two sun wheels mounted on a shaft 2, Fig 2, driving the conveyer, one 21, oi the sun wheels being normally fixed and the other, 20, fast or the shaft, and a planet carrier 12 common to both trains and receiving the drive. As illustrated in Fig. 1, the floor of a trailer T comprises chains passing over sprockets P<SP>1</SP>, P<SP>2</SP> and joined by slats M. A shaft S driving the conveyer is driven through gearing from a sprocket 1 driven from the sprocket F on a half-shaft A driven through shafting D from the power take-off shaft B of a tractor. The planet carrier comprises, Fig. 2, a rotary casing 12 which is driven from the sprocket 1 and carries planet gears 23, 24 which rotate together on spindles 26 secured to the casing and which mesh respectively, with the sun gear 20 keyed to the shaft 2 and with the reaction sun wheel 21 which is normally held against rotation by a frangible pin 10 by which it is connected to a bracket 3 in which it is mounted by a self-aligning bearing 5. The sprocket 1 is connected to the casing 12 through dog teeth 15,16 which are forced apart against a spring 17 should the gear be overloaded. The conveyer may comprise contiguous slats or a belt without a supporting fixed floor beneath, and may be driven from the ground wheels instead of from a power take-off.
