A container for liquids of the jerrican type is provided with strengthening ribs by forming indentations in the larger sides thereof which indentations extend from edge to edge of each face in a direction parallel to the shorter edge. The indentations may be continued round into the end sides. The radius of the convex faces of the strengthening ribs are preferably such as to avoid flowing away of inner coating material when applied thereto.
