Abstract

730,478. Ash-trays; cigarette rests and extinguishers. TITCUMB, E. V. Nov. 9, 1953 [Aug. 26, 1952], No. 21367/52. Class 130. A spring clip closing to hold a cigarette 11 comprises jaws 4 which are respectively opened and closed by pressure of the cigarette against them in opposite directions, as for removal and insertion. As shown, the jaws are on a mutual pivot 5 and operate as over centre toggles under the pressure of spring blades in the form of a single strip 8 secured to a cigarette snuffing tube 3 itself supported by an ash-tray 2 mounted on a vehicle steering- column 15. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the tube 3 has three spring clips mounted therearound and is supported by a free-standing ash-tray. According to the Provisional Specification, coacting stops may limit the closing of the jaws 4 and the spring power may be adjustable.
