Abstract
729,429. Arc-rupturing in switches. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A. Nov. 28, 1952 [Aug. 31, 1951], No. 20605/51. Class 38 (5). In an arc-chute for an air-break circuitbreaker A, having a series of parallel slotted partitions B lying transverse to the arc when initially drawn, the partitions are formed from plates of magnetic material coated with arcresisting insulating material. The coating may be applied by painting, spraying, dipping or moulding and in cases where the partitions are not flat, they may be bent to the desired configuration before or after coating. In Fig. 2 the plates are formed with side lugs B<SP>3</SP>, as described in Specification 722,604. Also, strips of material B <SP>4</SP>, B<SP>6</SP> left attached to one side of the slot B<SP>1</SP> in each plate are bent at right angles to the slot to form a flange to increase the amount of magnetic material in immediate proximity to the arc. An extension B' of one of the side lugs B3 of each plate may be bent inwards to meet the end of the flange B<SP>4</SP>, so that when the plates are assembled the passages formed between co-operating pairs of plates are in the form of convergent - divergent nozzles.
