Abstract
729,021. Screw-and-nut mechanism. CLEVELAND ENGINEERING & WELDING COY. PTY., Ltd. Sept. 28, 1953, No. 26573/53. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group XXII] A mechanical worm 15 or circular rack, for rotary clothes hoists, machine tools, jacks, &c., is substantially cruciform in cross-section over the major portion of its length, with two of the arms 16 of the cross having their central planes lying in a common plane longitudinal and diametrical of the worm, and with the other two arms 17 having their central planes parallel but not lying in a corp.- mon plane, one of the arms 17 lying wholly to each side of, and substantially contiguous with, a plane extending diametrically and longitudinally of the worm and perpendicular to the first mentioned diametrical plane, the outer ends of all the arms being formed as arcuate sections of worm teeth or of the teeth of circular rack. The worm is cast (see Group XXII). A mechanism incorporating a worm according to the invention comprises a gear wheel 20, the worm being held against rotation, by sectors 19 which engage diametrically opposite spaces betweenrthe arms 16, 17.
