Abstract
728,992. Wind musical instruments. EVANS, G. March 30, 1954 [March 30, 1953], No. 8734/53. Class 88 (2). A mute comprises a multi-sided hollow member, which may be formed by folding a single piece of material or by mounting a plurality of panels on a fabric lining. The mute is closed at its outer end and may be conical, Fig. 4, or of the form shown in Fig. 6 having an external flange g. In a modification, Fig. 8, a conical member, as shown in Fig. 4, is fitted inside one as shown in Fig. 6. Holes j may be formed in the wall of the mute which may also be provided with external stops of resilient material. At the outer end of the mute a knob, off-set from the centre, may provide a finger-hold, and the flange g may be recessed to accommodate the palm of the player's hand.
