Abstract

728,468. Pig-rearers. TEMPLETON, R. A. S. June 26, 1953 [Oct. 15, 1952], No. 25830/52. Class 5 (2). A brooder for young animals comprises an enclosed compartment having a warmed area 2 therein maintained at approximately the blood-temperature of the parent animal and a food-supply trough 4 adjacent to this area. The brooder may consist of three tiers of compartments enclosed by asbestos-sheet sides, and glass doors 7 at front and rear. The warmed area is formed by a water-chamber with an inclined panel 3, on which young animals may lie, the panel being integral with a food trough 4, also heated by the water. A part 1, of the floor of the compartment, is foraminous to enable excreta to fall through on to an inclined tray 8 for disposal through drains (not shown). The water-chambers are connected to a watersupply system and each incorporates a thermostat-controlled immersion-heater. The compartments may also include unheated troughs for solid food.
