Abstract

728,416. Kinematograph apparatus. BOLSEY, J. March 18, 1953 [April 2, 1952], No. 7457/53. Class 97 (1). A film magazine comprises a housing having an opening in one wall, automatic film threading and guiding means in the housing adjacent the opening at opposite sides thereof, film transporting means co-operating with said threading and guiding means for transporting a film to and from said means in a path extending past said opening, and film support means co-operating with said film-transporting means to retain the film in engagement therewith. A gate formed in the front face 14 of the magazine shown in Fig. 1 has a spring-urged pressure plate and a leaf spring acting as a film edge guide. The film is fed by sprockets 33, 34 being held in engagement therewith by members 42. Plates 31, 32 pivoted concentrically with the sprockets and interconnected at 37, 38, carry film guiding members 36. A spring plunger 39, engaging alternative holes 40 in the side wall of the magazine, locates the guiding members in film guiding or running position. The film also passes round a roller 43 containing a magnet which actuates a rotatable indicator on the magazine cover. The feed spool assembly is shown in Fig. 3. A fixed shaft 47 is secured to the magazine floor 25 and carries a nut 48 having a handle 50 by which the magazine cover 44 is retained, an annular pad 51 providing a light-tight seal. The feed spool comprises a flange 45 secured to a hub member 64 into which is screw threaded a hub member 65 carrying the flange 46. Thus a wound coil of film can be placed on the spool, the coil being carried on an adapter located by a pin 66. The spool is carried on a sleeve 52 carrying, with tongue-and-groove connection, a gear 54 surrounded by an integral dished plate 61 and a ring 57 which retains a spring plate 55 which holds the gear against a shoulder on the sleeve. The outside of the plate 61 is engaged by a friction pad 62. The shaft 47 carries a loose gear 58, normally driven faster than the spool is driven by the film feed, which carries a pawl 60 engaging the gear 54 to stop the spool when the mechanism stops. The take-up spool is of similar construction, the spring plate 55 providing the pressure for a friction drive. The take-up spool is flangeless but is flanked by stationary cheeks 77 (Fig. 1) which are cut away as shown to reduce the spool separation.
