Abstract
726,778. Cleaning vehicles, windows. - AGOSTI, B., and ORLANDI, P., [trading as OMAC.]. Dec. 12, 1951 [Dec. 12, 1950; July 27, 1951; Dec. 6, 1951], No. 29125/51. Class 138 (1). A portable device for preparing and distributing foaming detergent solutions on to glossy surfaces, e.g. vehicle bodies and windows, is connected by flexible conduits to sources of water and compressed air and has a chamber to which detergent is supplied and means for controlling the supply of water and air to the chamber, the arrangement being such that a foam will be formed which will pass to a discharge nozzle whence it may by appropriate manipulation of the device be directed onto the surface. The device shown in Fig. 1 comprises the mixing and foam-forming chamber A communicating by a channel 10 with a nozzle 12, a liquid detergent container B coaxial with the chamber A, and a handle C. The handle C is connected at 22 and 24 to sources of compressed air and water under pressure respectively. The compressed air can be supplied to the bottom of the chamber A through a passage 34, a valve 30, passages 36, 42 and pipe 4, whilst the water can be supplied to the bottom of the chamber through a passage 46, a valve 44, a passage 48, a space 60, a passage 62 and a pipe 6. Detergent is supplied to the bottom of the chamber A through a valve 14 operable at 18 and a pipe 8. The valves 30, 44 are simultaneously operable against the actions of springs 32, 58 respectively by moving a pivoted hand lever 26 in the direction X. The hand lever operates the valve 44 through the agency of a stirrup 56. The opening of the valve 44 relative to the valve 30 is adjustable by means of a screwed nut 54 cooperating with the stirrup. Water may be supplied direct to the nozzle 12, without going into the chamber A, from the passage 62 through a deviator valve operable at 74 and a pipe 78. When water is supplied direct to the nozzle 12, compressed air passes up through the chamber A and passage 10 to the nozzle to assist the jet. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 4 and 5 a liquid detergent container 301 is screwed on to the body A<SP>1</SP> of the gun provided with a handle B<SP>1</SP>. A hand lever 61 pivoted to the body simultaneously operates the air and water valves through stems 14<SP>1</SP> placed side by side (only one being visible in Fig. 4) and the detergent valve spindle 221 through the agency of a rod 18<SP>1</SP> having a fork 20<SP>1</SP> co-operating with the spindle 22<SP>1</SP>. The setting of the valve spindle 22<SP>1</SP> relative to the air and water valves is adjustable by means of screwed nut 10<SP>1</SP> on the spindle 22<SP>1</SP>, co-operating with the fork 20<SP>1</SP>. The passages leading from the air and water valve controllable by the lever 6<SP>1</SP> are further controlled by adjusting valves 48<SP>1</SP> and 54<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5. The hand lever controlled air and water valves may be by-passed by operating a regulating means 761 so that water and air alone may be sprayed from the device. Referring to Fig. 6, detergent is supplied through a passage 281 to a nozzle 26 controlled by a valve 24<SP>1</SP> on the spindle 221. The compressed air is supplied through a passage 441 to a nozzle 421 concentric with the nozzle 261. The outlets of the nozzles 26<SP>1</SP>, 42<SP>1</SP> communicate with a mixing chamber 581. Water is supplied to the side of the chamber 58<SP>1</SP> from a passage 56<SP>1</SP>. Solution formed in the chamber is passed rearwardly through channels 92<SP>1</SP> and deflected from a surface 94<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, so as to pass forwardly through a foam-forming chamber 601. The foam passes through a pair of perforated discs 641 having glass wool 96<SP>1</SP> disposed between them, through channels 68<SP>1</SP> in a central conduit 661, and outlet channels 701 to a nozzle 72<SP>1</SP>. To facilitate the flow of detergent from the container 301, since the mixing chamber is under air pressure from the nozzle 42<SP>1</SP>, compressed air is supplied to the container through a pipe 82<SP>1</SP> under the control of regulating means 881. Specification 448,489, [Group XXI], is referred to.
