Abstract

726,353. Lamps. RITTER CO., Inc. April 17, 1953 [Oct. 6, 1952], No. 10607/53. Classes 75 (2) and 75 (4). A light projector, particularly for dental use, comprises a light source located between a reflector and a cylindraceous lens, and a glare screen comprising a. stack of closely spaced strips or slats and arranged so that the rays of light which reach the field to be illuminated pass therethrough. As illustrated the projector comprises an electric lamp having a filament 22 formed as a number of distinct vertically extending coils and disposed between a parabolic reflector 12 and a plano-cylindrical lens 16, the cylindrical surface of which has a horizontal axis of generation. To prevent the passage of stray rays outside the zone 18 to be illuminated a glare screen is provided either in front or as shown rearwardly of the lens 16, and comprises a stack of thin opaque preferably metal slats 28 supported in an approximately horizontal or slightly tilted position in a frame. In order to avoid formation of images of the filament in the zone 18 the front or rear face or both faces of the lens 16 has or have vertical cylindrical flutes 26. Rays are prevented from passing directly from the filament 13 to the zone 18 by a metal shield 14. The lens 16 may be of blue-green heat absorbing glass, and the reflector 12 may, alternatively, be formed by two co-axial spherical surfaces of differing radii as in a Mangin mirror.
