Abstract

725,739. Making chains. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. May 15, 1953 [Feb. 18, 1953], No. 13623/53. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Welding by pressure.-In a method of making chains, the links are successively attached, welded &c at successive working stations 8-11 arranged in a circular path, a number of chains being carried by intermittently rotated radial arms 1 so that the various operations are carried out simultaneously at each station on one of the chains. Links heated in a furnace 7 are bent at station 8 and hooked on to the end of the chain hanging from one of the arms 1. The links are flash-welded in an automatic machine 9, have the burns removed in a machine 10 and finally have a stud 12 attached by flash-welding in a machine 11. The chains run along rollers 3 on the arms 1 and during the indexing movement between station 11 and station 8 the end of the chain is raised by the length of a link and turned through 90 degrees ready for hooking on the next link. The completed portions of the chains are collected in a container 5 rotatable with the arms 1.
