Abstract

Copolymers of a vinyl alkyl or alkyl substituted ether with maleic anhydride are made by mixing maleic anhydride, lauroyl peroxide and benzene at elevated temperature and continuously bubbling into the mixture the vinyl ether. Vinyl ethers mentioned are n-butyl, isobutyl, 2-methoxyethyl, and 2-ethoxyethyl. The copolymers are used for treating hides and skins (see Group IV (a)).
