Abstract
724,797. Cutting glass. MONTI, F., and MONTI, G., [trading as FRATELLI MONTI]. Feb. 12, 1953 [Feb. 12, 1952], No. 4000/53. Class 56. The excess length of the neck of an unfilled phial is severed automatically after the phial has been placed manually, with its neck downwards, in a member carried by a turntable rotated step by step around a vertical axis. The figure shows a diagrammatic development of the cycle, the turntable being shown at 3. At station I the phial 1 is manually inserted in the mandrel 2. At 11 a plunger 4 pushes the phial fully home and a centering disc 7 is applied. At 111 the neck is scored by a rotating cutter 5 and at IV the scored neck is severed by a hammer 8 which has previously moved the neck out of contact with the cutter. At V the cut edge is flame-smoothed and at VI the phial is discharged by a plunger 11.
