[Also in Group VI] A potato, onion &c. pressed down on a cutter disc 6 is pushed and swept round against various cutters projecting up from the surface of the disc whereby slices, gratings or strips (e.g. chips) may be cut from the underside of the potato. The cutter disc is provided with projections 7 which make arcuate slits in the underside of the potato, after which the underside is sliced off by one of the radial projecting knives 9 to form chips. The projection 7 may be replaced by grating surfaces on a replacement disc. The machine comprises a bent wire handle 2, a circular space being formed between the wires to receive an upstanding, welded-in shaft 3 around which the concave pusher 10 is rotated by its handle 18. The cutter disc 6 is first slipped down over the shaft 3 to a retaining ring 5 and is prevented from rotation by a bottom stop or by splines. The wire frame has diverging and bent ends to form support legs 4 to hook over the edge of a plate or has rubber feet to rest on a table. The potato is pressed down on the cutter disc by a spring pressed paddle 17. The clearance between the disc and the bottom edge of the pusher is variable to suit discs with different heights of upstanding cutters. This is arranged by discs of different diameters resting on steps in the flanged ring 6. The discs themselves may have a raised outer edge and their centre holes may be flanged up to provide clearance between the pusher and the cutters.
