Abstract

723,874. Valves. KROMSCHRODER AKT.- GES., G. July 18, 1951 [Aug. 4, 1950], No. 17059/51. Class 135. A fluid-pressure regulator comprises a hollow valve member floating freely on membranes without rigid guide means and movable relative to a valve plate, the membranes including a working membrane attached to the member between its ends and a compensating membrane above which the upper edge of the member protrudes. The Venturi-shaped tubular valve member q is supported by a working membrane f and a compensating membrane e, attached to a casing partition a<SP>1</SP>, carries a loading weight I at its lower end and seats on a universally tiltable plate b. A safety membrane g perforated at h provides a dash-pot chamber D between the other membranes open to the atmosphere via chamber E and opening p and prevents a large escape of gas should either of these membranes break. A rigid suction-producing diaphragm i carries a collar o whereby the flow of gas through the member q produces a high or low suction in the space B according to whether the lower end of the member is below or above the collar, corresponding to open or closed position of the member. The working parts of the regulator are formed in a middle casing section d so that various forms of inlet and outlet sections a, c may be used. The working membrane f is responsive to outlet pressure variations via the space B, while the compensating membrane e is acted upon by inlet pressure which is balanced by inlet pressure acting under the flange z at the top of the member. The reduced suction in the space B when the member q is raised is compensated for by the downward pull of the membrane e and the increased suction when the member q is lowered by the upward pull in the membrane e. In this way the regulator outlet pressure from zero up to maximum outflow is kept constant and independent of inlet pressure variations.
