Abstract

723,428. Gelatine capsules. TYE & SON, Ltd., J. Jan. 2. 1953 [Oct. 3, 1951], No. 23032/51. Class 81 (1.). Gelatine capsules are heat sealed by pinching the filling necks of the capsules between two jaws and applying heat to the lips of the capsules above the pinch whereby the lips are melted and caused to coalesce. Preferably the jaws and all parts of the capsules except the lips are shielded against the heat. As shown, a frame 12 has parallel apertured bars 14 and 16 secured between members 22 which support jaw bars 24. Capsules 10 are loaded into the frame with their teat ends in sockets 18 in the lower bar 16. Heating elements 28 e.g. infrared or electric heating elements, having associated shields 30 are provided above the capsule necks 26. The jaw bars 24 have tapering edges 32 to form a groove into which molten gelatin may flow.
