Abstract

A method of preventing corrosion of a packaged ferrous article, e.g. a razor blade, by an acidic atmosphere, comprises incorporating in the package in spaced relationship to the article a sodium salt of an aromatic acid, e.g. sodium benzoate, salicylate or phthalate, which in such atmosphere yields an acid providing a corrosioninhibiting film on the article. The amount of the salt present may vary from 0.05 to 0.25 grms. An acid adapted to convert 25-75 per cent of the sodium salt to active acid may also be incorporated, e.g. 0.1 grm. of sodium benzoate and 0.021 grms. of acetic acid may be used. The active acid may also be incorporated, in which case the amount of sodium salt is reduced, e.g. 0.005-0.1 grms. of benzoic acid and 0.025-0.125 grms. of sodium benzoate may be used. The razor blade may be treated before packaging, as described in Specification 720,276.
