Abstract

An insecticidal composition comprises a bis-(bis-dialkylamino)-phosphonous anhydride and a synergist consisting of a compatible amide or ester or mixed amide ester of phosphoric acid but the preparation containing bis-(bis-dialkylamino)-phosphonous anhydride and tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphine oxide produced according to Specification 703,160, [Group IV (b)] is excluded. The amide, ester or mixed amide ester is a compound which is soluble or dispersible in water without producing such a concentration of acid as to cause rapid decomposition of the phosphonous anhydride, which is not a known contact insecticide and which is a member of one of the following classes x <FORM:0723104/VI/1> Compounds specified are tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphine oxide, bis (dimethylamino)-ethoxyphosphine oxide and trimethyl, tributyl, trioctyl and tri-o-cresyl phosphate. The proportion of synergist to "bis" compound may be 22 : 78 by weight for example. The insecticidal composition may also comprise compatible diluents, emulsifiers and wetting agents, and may be applied as low volume sprays and aerosols.
