Abstract

720,334. Television. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. June 30, 1952 [July 18, 1951], No. 16433/52. Class 40 (3). In an apparatus for recording television image signals, the raster of a cathode-ray tube modulated in accordance with the signals is imaged on a continuously moving record strip, such as a photographic film, with the line direction of scan parallel to the direction of film movement, whereby the recorded lines appear as shown in Fig. 4. With double interlaced scanning the two fields A, B appear separately and the lines are arranged to be spaced apart more than normal to prevent loss of detail during play-back. It is not intended that the images should be recognizable, although they are sufficiently clear for editing purposes. To regenerate the signals, the recording apparatus is re-arranged so that the cathode-ray tube produces a constant intensity spot and a photo-tube is positioned to receive the light passed through the film. Spot-wobbling is employed to ensure a tracing of the lines should slight misalignment of the raster occur. Preferably the film is of the reversal type, although the record may be obtained by contact print from a negative film.
