Abstract

720,111. Lubricating pumps. AUTO RESEARCH CORPORATION. Feb. 12, 1952. [Feb. 13, 1951] No. 3725/52. Class 102 (1). [Also in Group XXXIV] A lubricating pump and its actuating means are supported by the cover D of a container C for the lubricant. The pump cylinder 51 is attached to a support 57 by a threaded cap 54 which forms an abutment for the springs 70, 71 which actuate the piston F on its delivery stroke. The stroke of the piston F is varied bv adjusting a sleeve 68, forming a stop, on the piston rod 62. The suction stroke of the piston F is effected by the lever'65 pivoted on pin 91 secured to the cover and carrying a roller 97 that engages the cam 98. The driving shaft 110 has a worm 124 that meshes with worm wheel 140 on a shaft 99 carried by brackets 169, 170 on the cover D. The drive is transmitted through a reduction gear comprising gear wheels and pinions to the gear wheel 153 that has an arcuate slot 157 engaged by a pin 156 on the cam 198 and permits the springs 70, 71 to execute a quick delivery stroke as the roller 97 passes over the. lobe 158 of the cam. The pump carries a filter B and the container c has a level indicator. The pump delivery is fitted with two non-return valves and the space between them is connected to the bearings on shaft 110 to lubricate them. The pump delivery is connected to a lubrication system, including a number of junction boxes, and each lubrication point has a metering outlet fitting as shown in Fig. 8. The fitting 210 has a strainer cup 217 and fibrous filtering media 218 retained in position by pressing the body over a sleeve 220. A bore 212 contains a pin 211 dimensioned to leave an accurately determined metering passage through the bore 212. The outlet end has a valve formed of a seat 222 of oil silk, artificial resin or silicone rubber and a backing disc 223 loaded by a spring 224.
