Abstract

719,675. Rotary pumps. ROCKWELL MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 25, 1952 [Sept. 24, 1951], No. 21317/52. Class 110(2) A rotary pump, meter, or motor, comprises a rotor 19 mounted on a fixed shaft 17 in a fixed housing, the rotor having vanes 44 which are rotated in timed relation with the rotor, so that a cut out portion of each vane passes a division plate 50 during rotation, by means of a control member 78 which is connected by cranks to the vane shafts and which rotates about an axis parallel to the rotor axis but displaced radially therefrom. In the construction shown a fixed shaft 17 is mounted in the end plates 11, 14 of a motor housing 10 and carries ball bearing assemblies 20, 21 for the cylindrical rotor 19. The end plates 26, 28, of the rotor each carry four ball bearing assemblies 36 for the cranked ends of shafts 42, each of which is secured to or integrally formed with a semicylindrical vane 44. The vanes move in recesses in the rotor and, when extended, move with a close rotating fit within the housing 10. To one end of each shaft 42 is pinned a crank 66 carrying a bushing 72 into which extends a pin 80 extending from a plate 78, the latter being mounted by a ball bearing assembly 7 on a boss 74 on the end plate 11. The boss 74 has its axis eccentrically disposed with respect to the axis of the shaft 17, the distance a between the axes being equal to the distance b between the rotational axes of the pins 80 and the shafts 42. By this means the vanes constantly face the same direction when the device is in use. The device may be geared at 88 to a revolution counter for indicating the quantity of fluid passing through the meter.
