Abstract
718,287. Inhalers; vaporizers. BRUCKBAUER, H., and GOTZ, G. Oct. 19, 1951 [Dec. 12, 1950; July 25, 1951], No. 24475/51. Classes 81(1) and 81(2) Apparatus for the cold evaporation of liquid inhaling substances comprises a casing provided with a porous absorbent wick, a fan being provided within the casing which draws air through an opening in the casing, causes if to flow over the wick, one end of which extends into a container for the liquid to be vaporized, and subsequently forces air out of the casing through another opening. A casing 20 is provided with a perforated bottom 21 through which air is drawn into the casing 20 by a propeller 24 driven by an electric motor 22. The air is driven through openings 33 to the interior of a tube 27 mounted in a cover 25 at the top of the casing 20. A round wick 28 within the tube 27 extends into inhalant liquid in a container 30 secured to the bottom of the tube 27. After passing over the wick 28, the air leaves the apparatus through holes 34 in a closure 26 mounted in the cover 25. The exit holes 34 may be omitted and a closure provided having a flexible tube attached by which vapour may be supplied to a patient. In another construction (Fig. 2) the casing comprises an upper part 51 open at the bottom and provided with a screw cap 53 for insertion into a lampholder. an electric motor 54 and a propeller 58, and a lower portion 52 open at the top and which serves as a container for inhalant liquid 73. An annular wick 79 is held against the wall of the lower portion 52 by a perforated ring 76 which is integral with a cover 77 for the liquid.. The bottom of the lower portion 52 has a central recess 71 by which it is mounted on a pin 69 depending from a bridge 66 secured across the open end of the upper portion 51. The cover 77 is also mounted on the pin 69. Air is drawn into the container through holes 56 in the upper portion 51 and is driven out through a space- 80 between the upper and lower portions 51, 52. The propeller 58 is formed from a sheet iron disc from which upwardly bent flaps 62 are formed.
