A sliding scale for demonstrating musical information such as scales and chords and for transposing from one key to another and from one notation to another comprises a stock with partly transparent front and back plates c, d and two superimposed opaque slides g, j sliding in directions at right angles, part of the rear slide j being visible through a slot h in the front slide g. The front slide g, Fig. 6 is divided into columns of equal width representing the semitones of two octaves and one semitone. The columns are marked black and white to represent black and white notes. 'The one or two possible names for keys based in each note are marked at the top and bottom of the column above the slot h. The three possible names for the note itself (except G#, A#) are marked beneath the slot. The names of one octave of notes based on C are marked on the stock along a strip marked OLD NOTES. The slide is adjusted so that the name of the key under consideration, e.g. A#, is shown in the squares l adjacent the markings KEY OF. Information concerning the major and minor keys of A# can then be read from the slide by comparison of the slide markings and the stock marking at an appropriate level marked TONIC SOL FA, DIATONIC NAMES, MELODIC SCALE UP &c. To determine a particular chord in the key for which the slider g is set, the rear slider j is set so that the name of the wanted chord, e.g. minor 6th is shown in the slot h against the marking CHORD on the stock. The numbers 1, #3, 5, 6 identify the notes of the chord. Three names appear on the slide g beneath each of the numbers and a circular slide k is used to determine the correct name to use. The reverse side bf the 'scale can be used to determine chord inversion.
