717,054. Clocks. ANCIENNE MANUFACTURE D'HORLOGERIE PATEK PHILIPPE & CO., SOC. ANON. Feb. 18, 1952 [Feb. 24, 1951], No. 4267/52. Class 139 [Also in Group XL(b)] A clock is characterized by at least one photo-electric cell, means adapted to transform the electrical energy derived from said cell into mechanical energy, and means for storing a quantity of energy and for transmitting it to the movement of the clock thereby to enable this movement to operate at periods when the photo-electric cell is not excited. According to the description one or more photoelectric cells, excited by daylight or artificial light, drive an electric motor which winds up a mainspring or a weight. If desired the current from the cell or cells may charge a small accumulator which when required provides the energy for driving the electric motor. In another suggested arrangement the current from the cell or cells maintains the oscillations of a body which actuates the clock winding mechanism by a pawl and ratchet.
