Abstract
In preserving preparations of the cells of organs of animals for use therapeutically, the organs, e.g. the pancreas, kidneys, spleen, liver, heart and thyroid glands of foetuses obtained by Caesarean section and the sexual glands, ovaries and suprarenal glands of young or adult animals, are removed under sterile conditions, are freed from superfluous fat, comminuted and frozen, and are freed from cell water by sublimation in a high vacuum. At least 95 per cent of the cell water is so removed, and the dried products are enclosed in sterile ampoules under vacuum. The dried products may be worked up into ointments, salves or pills, or may be mixed with sterile Ringer solution or physiological saline solution for injection.
