Abstract

Carbonaceous, e.g. graphite, articles are subjected to silica vapour whereby the surfaces thereof are converted to silicon carbide without substantial alteration to the shape or dimensions of the articles. Preferably the articles are shielded from direct impact of the silica vapour.
