Class 60 In a rotary abrasive head of the kind in which abrasive strips 30 extend outwardly between a cylindrical brush assembly 31, the brushes are carried by holders 19 secured to a plate 1 and supported by a plate 13 in keyed engagement with a core 7 to which the strips are anchored in groups, locking means being engageable and disengageable by axial displacement of a clamping device 22 in screw-threaded engagement with the core to free the latter for rotation relative to the brush assembly. The relative rotation adjusts the length of the abrasive strips projecting beyond the ends of the brushes. The plate 1 is secured to a driving shaft and has a socket 5 in which a flange 6 on the core 7 is rotatably secured by a circlip 8. 'To anchor the strips, pins 11 mounted in slotted axial bores 9 are provided. Three slots 12 in line with the slots 10 of these bores receive three splines 16 at the centre of the plate 13 which has two concentric flanges 17, 18 to receive the free ends of the brush holders 19 and a short projection (not shown) between these two flanges. This projection is normally located in a brush socket or between two sockets and constitutes the locking means to prevent relative rotation between the brush assembly and the core 7. When the device 22 is slackened, the plate 13 is displaced axially to disengage the projection and turned with respect to the plate 1 to adjust the strips 30. Replacement of the abrasive strips is effected by removing the plate 13 and pins 11. The edge of the plate 13 and a boss 3 on the plate 1 are preferably knurled.
