Abstract
<PICT:0715211/III/1> A continuous process for hydroforming a naphthenic naphtha comprises contacting the naphtha in the presence of a hydrogen-containing gas with a fluidized bed of catalyst, stripping contaminated catalyst withdrawn from the reaction zone to remove volatile hydrocarbons and hydrogen, regenerating the stripped catalyst as a fluidized bed with a regeneration gas to remove a portion but not all of the deposits, and then returning the regenerated catalyst to the reaction zone. As shown, contaminated catalyst (for example molybdenum oxide on alumina gel) is withdrawn from the reactor 7 through line 21 into stripper 22 where it is treated in countercurrent with steam introduced at 30; filters for removing solids from the stripping gas are situated in the expanded portion 31 of the stripper. Stripped catalyst is conveyed by compressed air entering at 24 into regenerator 25 where the deposits are burned off at a temperature not exceeding 950 DEG F. so as to leave 0.5-2 per cent. by weight of carbon on the regenerated catalyst; a cooler 29 may be provided. The catalyst leaves the regenerator by pipe 28 and mixed with the hydrogen feed to the reactor in line 8. The stripping stage may last for 20-30 minutes and may also be carried out with hydrogen or flue gas.
