Class 126 A grate comprises two rectangular frames, one of which is slidably supported on the other, the lower frame being supported on ledges above the ash-pit, and each frame having longitudinal bars so that those of the upper frame lie between those of the lower frame, the upper frame being slidable in the direction of the bars, and at least some of the bars of the lower frame being in the same plane as those of the upper frame. The lower frame comprising side members a and end members c, d is slidably mounted on ledges b provided above the ash-pit, and has equally spaced bars e extending between the front bar c and the bar d which is spaced from the end of the sides a. The middle bar a is at a lower level than the others. The upper frame comprises bars f extending between front and rear members g, h, the bars f resting in grooves formed in the front and rear bar c, d of the lower frame. The frames are constructed so that the bars fare at the same level as the centre bars e of the lower frame. Loop shaped lugs i are formed on the front bar g of the upper frame so that it can be moved backwards and forwards. A single similar lug may be formed on the front bar of the lower frame so that it can be drawn forwards to discharge large clinkers, or both the frames may be tilted.
