Class 25 A chimney is provided at or near its top with a number of lateral fins spaced apart one above the other in order to prevent, or reduce the amount of smoke travelling down the exterior of the chimney wall. In the embodiment shown the cylindrically shaped chimney 1 is provided with an extension comprising alternate layers of reinforced concrete fins 3 and spacers 2 the fins and spacers being formed of segmental slabs joined together by metal bars 4 of inverted U- shape passing through slots formed in the slabs near their radial joints.
