Abstract
The invention comprises salts of polybasic acids with homatropine and with one or more morphine alkaloids or their narcotic derivatives having the morphine ring-system. The salts are made by dissolving the components in a common solvent (or separately and then mixing) and isolating the product by evaporation or precipitation. Alternatively they may be prepared by double decomposition, e.g. from a barium salt of the acid and the sulphate of the base. Examples show the production of dihydrohydroxycodeinone homatropine terephthalate, dihydromorphinone homatropine citrate, morphine homatropine malonate, dihydrocodeinone homatropine tartrate, codeine homatropine succinate, ethylmorphine homatropine aconitate, dihydrocodeine homatropine phthalate and codeine homatropine fumarate. Other specified acids are camphoric, phenoldisulphonic, benzenetrisulphonic, salicyldisulphonic, saccharic, sulphuric, sulphurous and phosphoric.ALSO:Narcotic compositions contain a salt of a polybasic acid with homatropine and with one or more morphine alkaloids or their narcotic derivatives having the morphine ring-system. Preferably such salt is mixed with a larger amount of a simple salt of the narcotic base. The compositions may be in the form of tablets, capsules, solutions or suppositories and may be administered by injection, per oz or into the rectum. The usual binders, diluents, lubricating agents and stabilizers may be present. As an example a mixture of dihydrohydroxycodeinone homatropine tetaphthalate, dihydrohydroxycodeinone hydrochloride, lactose, starch, dextrin, a dyestuff and water is granulated with methanol, and the talc and starch added; the mixture is converted into tablets. Two or more narcotic bases may be present in the composition. Other specified double salts are dihydromorphinone homatropine citrate, morphine homatropine malonate, dihydrocodeinone homatropine tartrate, codeine homatropine succinate, ethylmorphine homatropine aconitate, dihydrocodeine homatropine phthalate and codeine homatropine fumarate. The salts may also be derived from camphoric, phenoldisulphonic, benzenetrisulphonic, salicyldisulphonic, saccharic, sulphuric, sulphurous or phosphoric acid.
