Abstract

713,021. Artificial teeth. RAUSCHER. W. Sept. 15, 1951, No. 21716/51. Class 81(2) An artificial tooth has a root the outer layer of which consists of synthetic material tolerated by tissues so that it can be implanted in the jaw. The root is provided with a hard core 2 of steel, silver, tantalum or ivory, the cuter layer 3 being of softer material, e.g. polyethylene which is made in the form of a shell or is applied to the hard core 2 by dipping or spraying. The outer layer 3 may contain tantalum powder or wire netting as an X-ray contrast material. A crown 5 of metal or hard synthetic material is cemented or screwed' on to an upper pin 4. The surface of the root is provided with longitudinal grooves 6, transverse grooves 7 and depressions 8. A clamp 16 which is placed over the implanted tooth and is sewn to the gum keeps the tooth in place until the tissues have grown round it. The tooth may have more than one root which may be of circular or hexagonal cross-section. A cutting tool is provided to prepare sockets in the gum and jaw to receive the roots.
