Abstract

712,890. Ammunition belts; belt-feed mechanism. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES SOC.-ANON. March 26, 1952 [March 27, 1951], No. 27423/53. Divided out of 712,867. Class 92(2) An ammunition belt of the disintegrating link type is fed towards the breech of the gun by a driven rotor and the links are stripped from the cartridges by means comprising a radial abutment 62 for those cartridges still engaging the rotor and held by at least one link of the belt, and a pulling hook 51 carried by a part, such as a lever 50, capable of being pushed back by the cartridge about to be disengaged. The pulling hook is returned to its initial position, as by a spring plunger 54, to engage the next link, at the end of every feed step. In the construction shown the abutment 62 is in the form of part circular ramps, and the hook 51 has an upper inclined surface which, in conjunction with a sloping surface 56, directs the separated links towards a discharge shoot 59. The surface 56 also acts as an abutment for limiting the movement of the lever towards the rotor. Two levers 50 with inwardly directed hooks may be provided, and as the belt is advanced by the rotor the hook or hooks engage the links while the horizontal branch of the lever, or each lever, are engaged by the cartridges which swing the lever, or levers, to the position shown in Fig. 3. The links may be constructed as shown in Fig. 7, having forward elements 58a, 58b, and a rear element having flanges 57a, 57b, adapted to overlap the inner edges of the front elements of the following link. By this means, the action of the hook 51 on the front edges r of a link assists in pulling off the rear element of the preceeding link. A spring- controlled cam device 60 may be mounted on the shaft 32 of the rotor and comprises two fingers which are first deflected, against the action of a spring 61, by a downwardly moving cartridge and are subsequently urged by the spring to so push the cartridge towards the firearm. The arrangement is such that the cartridge c, Fig. 3, which is in the waiting position is not subjected to any downward pressure. Specifications 681,971 and 712,867 are referred to.
