Abstract

The invention comprises nor-camphor hydrazone, C7H12N2, its preparation by reacting nor-camphor with hydrazine, and the conversion of nor-camphor hydrazone to nor-tricyclene [tricyclo - (2.2.1.02,6) - heptane] by mild oxidation, especially in alkaline medium. In examples: (1) nor-camphor, ethanol and anhydrous hydrazine are refluxed, and nor-camphor hydrazone isolated by distillation; (2) nor-camphor hydrazone, calcium oxide and mercuric oxide in alcohol are refluxed, the distillate treated with water and pentane, and nor-tricyclene obtained from the organic layer by distillation.
