Abstract

In a separator in which material is carried under a magnet by a vibrating conveyer (vibrating lengthwise to impart translational movement to the material), transverse vibration is applied to the conveyer additionally to turn the material over and assist separation. Alternatively a gyratory movement may be applied to the conveyer to perform both operations. The conveyer comprises one or more open channels of rounded trough-like cross-section and may be rigid or elastic.
