Abstract

710,700. Code telegraphy. STAATSBEDRIJF DER POSTERIJEN, TELEGRAFIE EN TELEFONIE. March 20, 1951 [March 24, 1950], No. 6682/51. Class 40 (3) A signal storing device for a telegraph system in which a number of signals are retransmitted when signal mutilation has occured over the transmission path, as described in Specifications 519,633 and 632,774, comprises a set of condensers simultaneously connected by a set of contacts and selectively charged according to the signal, a second set of contacts simultaneously connecting the condensers to individual distributer contacts sequentially connected to a trigger circuit having two conditions of stability and operating when tripped to one or the other of its conditions of stability to apply a voltage to recharge the associated condenser with a charge of the same polarity as that applied to the trigger circuit. Successive signals are applied to the sets of condensers C1 . . . C7, C8 ... C14, C15 . . . C21 by contacts Z<SP>1</SP> . . . Z<SP>7</SP> in conjunction with contacts f<SP>1</SP> . . . f<SP>7</SP> and contacts h' . . . h<SP>7</SP>, the contacts Z' . . . Z7 being closed during the first half of each revolution of a fastrotating shaft. The relays F, H are controlled by a shaft moving at one third the speed of the fast shaft, relay F being operated after the slow shaft has completed one third of a revolution and relay H also being operated when the slow shaft has completed two thirds of a revolution, so that the contacts f<SP>1</SP> .. f<SP>7</SP> and h<SP>1</SP> . . . h<SP>7</SP> are closed during the second and third revolutions of the fast shaft. Contacts j<SP>1</SP> . . . j<SP>7</SP> closed by relay J operated during the second half of each revolution of the fast shaft apply the changes on condensers C1 ... C7. C8 . . . C14 or C15 . . . C21 to segments 1 ... 7 of the distributer 10 connected during the second half of the revolution of the fast moving shaft to a resistance R4 and the grid of the left hand valve of the trigger device FF. If, for example, a negative voltage is applied from a connected condenser, the lefthand valve is cut-off assuming the previous signal elements but makes it conducting-and the righthand valve conducts so that the potential drop across resistance R2 is applied via ring 8 and the corresponding segment 1 . . . 7 to recharge the condenser negatively. Current flow in the righthand valve energizes winding II of relay KA to operate its contact ka to pass the appropriate signal element to the line 11. If a signal has been mutilated in transmission the fast shaft is arrested in a position such that the relay Z is unoperated and relay J operated and further signals cannot be applied to the sets of condensers. The slow shaft continues to rotate to control the operation of relays F, H to effect the retransmission of the signals set up on the three sets of condensers. If further signal multilation does not occur, the fast shaft is again brought into action at the end of the revolution of the slow shaft. Specification 666,316 also is referred to.
