Abstract
710,234. Rotary filters. CEE BEE CHEMICAL CO., Inc. Aug. 5, 1952, No. 19655/52. Class 46. [Also in Group XVII] In a filter for a solvent liquid after use for removing sealant coating from integral tanks of aircraft by pressure spraying the interiors, the effluent is discharged, Figs. 2, 3, through inlet pipe 18 into a filter drum 19 comprising a backplate 34 connected to a ring 35 by tangential vanes 36 and externally covered by a cylindrical fine mesh screen 37 which is set in an opening 38 of an internal wall 31 of a tank unit 11, and slowly rotated through gearing by a motor 40 to extract the suspended matter, which is dislodged by the internal vanes and falls on a chute 22 directing it on to a screen 24 at the bottom of a receptacle 23 divided off within the tank unit by wall 31. Solvent drains through the fixed and rotary screens into the base reservoir 21 for pump recirculation to the sprays, and the rotary screen is kept clear by perforated pipes 45, 47 disposed round the drum periphery and discharging respectively jets of liquid and air thereupon. If the liquid is other than the solvent (e.g. water) the pipe 45 is disposed below the top of the drum in the direction of rotation and the liquid is diverted to separate storage by a deflector wall tangential to the drum and parallel to its axis.
